Police question naked man after deadly stabbing inside Long Island City luxury high-rise
LONG ISLAND CITY, Queens (WABC) -- A naked man was taken into custody -- and as many as two other men are still being sought -- after a man was stabbed to death at a luxury high-rise over the weekend.
Carlos Penzo, 36, was found in his apartment at 43-25 Hunter Street on Saturday afternoon.
The naked man was found on the roof of the apartment building and officials say he was spraying a fire extinguisher at security cameras.
Authorities say he was caught attempting to break back into the victim's fourth-floor apartment
Police believe up to two other men may also have also been in the apartment.
Penzo was found in his bathtub with multiple stab wounds to his head, face and chest. He had a knife and taser in his lap. One knife was found on a bed and another in a sink.
Detectives are looking into Penzo's background as they attempt to unravel his murder.
"I saw some police coming and going on Saturday and like the staff seemed to be like, you know, in a tizzy, going back and forth," said Eric Detweiler, who has lived in the building for almost a decade without issue. "I think that the staff are doing everything they can to cooperate with the police and try to bring resolution to the situation. And I hope that the assailant gets caught and, you know, sees justice."
On Monday, pairs of NYPD officers and detectives showed up at the complex throughout the day to continue the investigation. Some longtime residents said they were glad to see a police presence after such a graphic crime.
"It is a very safe area, very safe," said Fabiana Donati. "I'm relieved because I always think, you know, there is police. Nothing bad is going to happen. You know? And it's good. So the police came and, you know, it means that people care, police care."
